The Douglas Usseglio Memorial Hockey Fund was created to honor the memory of Douglas “Dougie” Usseglio.
Dougie a star hockey player at Waltham High School and The Winchendon School and a senior at Franklin Pierce was fatally injured on Sunday, March 6. Mourned by thousands of family and friends, Dougie touched the lives of many.
To honor Dougie, father Gary Usseglio, mother Michelle Usseglio, and their immediate families established the Douglas Usseglio Memorial Hockey Fund. This fund is to support individual hockey programs Dougie was involved in, including but not limited to Waltham Youth Hockey, Waltham High School Hockey, The Winchendon School, The East Coast Jumbos and Franklin Pierce University Hockey.
Awards and donations will be given annually to multiple recipients. Details of award criteria to follow. Criteria for any scholarship awards will be modeled after Dougie, particularly family financial need, and community service.
Fundraising began March 2016, when donations in lieu of flowers, were deposited into Rockland Trust, Dougies community bank.
“I am in awe and stunned by the outpouring of support to my family. To read every post by his cousins – all of them, my cousins, his former teachers, his friends, their parents, my dance family, my hockey family, my related family is heart wrenching yet helping us through every horrible second. The posts of birthday wishes to Doug’s page are incredible. The pictures are beautiful. The financial support offered to help brings me to my knees. We have set up a fund where all donations in excess of funeral costs will go. The Douglas Usseglio Memorial Hockey Fund from which we intend to give back to Waltham Youth, Waltham High School and The Winchendon School Hockey Programs for as long as possible. From myself , Gary Usseglio and Julia and our entire family we feel the love and appreciate it more than we can ever express.”
